Call Of Duty Black Ops getting a Map Pack!

Dan Bunting, Black Ops’ Producer, recently spoke to Larry Hryb, better known as Xbox Live’s Major Nelson, about the first ever map pack to be released for Black Ops. The Map Pack is entitled “First Strike”, which was also the name of the internal beta held before Black Ops was released. First Strike will be released first on Xbox Live on February 1st, 2011, as per Microsoft and Activisions exclusivity contract. The Map Pack will include:

Four Brand New Multiplayer Maps

  • Berlin Wall – This map is set in Berlin, Germany at ‘Checkpoint Charlie’, one of the best-known crossing points between East and West Berlin.
  • Discovery – This map takes place in an Antarctic German research station, abandoned since World War II.
  • Kowloon – Set in Kowloon City, Hong Kong – this map is inspired by the single player campaign mission ‘Numbers’ which sees CIA agent Hudson fighting his way across the rooftops. This maps battle will take place on the rainy rooftops of Kowloon City.
  • Stadium – Stadium is set in the Northeastern part of the United States, in a complexly designed Hockey Rink. We’d have to assume there will be room for close-quarters battle on a map like this, but stay tuned for screenshots and videos which are sure to come in the future.
One Brand New Zombies Map
  • Ascension – Details on Ascension were not available, as Dan said that this info is still classified as of the time of this writing and of his interview with Major Nelson.

The Maps will cost you 1200 Microsoft points ($15)

All new maps have interactivity and ‘scripted moments’ (think Launch with the Rocket taking off), and Treyarch wanted to go ‘bigger and better’ with the Downloadable Content (DLC) for Black Ops. Dan also mentioned that there are many elements of verticality, meaning that there are many spots on the map where the gunfire is not only being sent across the map but can also be reigned down from above and below you.
First Strike will hit Xbox Live on February 1st, 2011 and can be purchased for 1200 Microsoft Points. Dan promised an in-depth look at the new maps in the coming weeks, so be sure to stay tuned here as we’ll be bringing you that info as soon as we have it!

Call of Duty Black Ops December Patch Coming!

Here Are the list of issues being addressed in the December patch for Call of Duty Black ops. Note anything in Bold will be a big factor to some people.


Issues Addressed:
• Resolved several issues with parties getting disbanded unexpectedly.
• Updated handling for UPnP-enabled routers to improve matchmaking conditions where users had strict or moderate NAT types. Also added in-game communications so that all players are aware of their NAT type in the Player Match party lobby.
• Addressed issue that prevented the “Load MP by Default” option from saving when other specific option combinations were set.
• Prevention of exploit that allowed players to keep custom classes and killstreaks after prestige.
• Addressed an issue where Flak Jacket Pro would not always protect against ground fires left by Napalm Strikes.
• Prevention of users losing their killstreak reward when switching classes at the start of a new round in round-based game modes.
• Addressed an issue where the incorrect perks would appear when spectating another player under certain circumstances.
• Added round start explosive delay to China Lake grenade launcher to give it the same round start limitations as other explosives.
• Contracts will now reset when the player Prestiges.
• Prevention of Valkyrie rocket exploding upon release under rare conditions.
• Prevention of Gunship failing to give player full control under rare conditions.
• Prevention of an issue where a player will get teleported outside the map boundaries under very specific circumstances.
• Additional security measures to enhance detection and banning capabilities.

Gameplay Tuning:
Limit the ability to re-roll supply drops using Hardline Pro to Care Packages only, no other killstreak drops.
• Added a negative influencer to all spawn points to decrease the chances of spawning near an enemy. This will further improve spawning protection on top of previous updates.
Additional sound mix tuning for Ninja Pro users – increased ranges and volume of enemy footsteps, and removed player footstep sounds on concrete material types.
• Increased headshot multipliers for sniper rifles. Sniper rifles with suppressors equipped will now always be ensured one-shot kill headshots.
• Subtle increase in sniper rifle accuracy when scoping in.
Added a render delay to the red diamond player indicators that appear when controlling the Gunship, Valkyrie Rocket and Chopper Gunner. When a player first spawns, this will not appear for a period of time.
• Additional minor reductions in knife lunge.

With only a little more than a week in october, the october playlists that Bungie promised are now live. Here they are:

    • Added SWAT Magnums gametype
  • Team Objective
    • Removed 1 Flag Classic
    • Removed Headhunter Pro
    • Removed the following gametypes from Hemorrhage due to the size of the map with only 8 players:
      • Multiflag Classic
      • 1 Flag CTF
      • 1 Flag Pro
      • 1 Bomb Assault
    • Removed Oddball and Hot Potato from Boardwalk
  • Multi Team
    • Removed SWAT
    • Removed Classic gametypes
    • Removed The Cage
    • Changed weighting for Rocket Race so it does not have a 100% chance to appear in Slot 3
  • Big Team Battle
    • Removed Multiflag from Boneyard and Spire
  • Invasion
    • This playlist now offers 3 voting options
  • Firefight
    • Updated Firefight playlist gametypes to be a full set instead of 1 round. Adjusted skull progression.
    • Removed Friendly Fire
  • Score Attack
    • Removed Crash Site
    • Added Mythic Score Attack
    • You can no longer pickup other weapons in Sniper Attack


  • Zealot/Arena Zealot
    • Arena Zealot is now used for all Slayer gametypes
    • Players can no longer stand on the edge of the generators in space and crouch to shoot below the shield
  • Asylum
    • Softkill zones added to the tops of the Sniper buildings
  • Boneyard
    • Modified respawn zones for Slayer gametypes
  • Hemorrhage
    • Modified respawn zones for both bases
    • Respawn timers for all Warthogs on Hemorrhage should now be 120 seconds


  • CTF
    • All CTF gametypes should now have a player respawn of 10 seconds
    • All Classic CTF gametypes now feature Flag At Home To Score and Touch Return
    • Flag At Home To Score disabled for all non-Classic CTF gametypes
    • Modified Flag Return and Flag Reset times:
      • 1 Flag on Small maps use 10 second return and 30 second reset
      • All other CTF gametypes use 30 second return and 45 second reset
  • Assault
    • Assault gametypes now have a player respawn time of 10 or 15 seconds depending on the map
